The system requirements listed below are minimum requirements for running EG POS.

The most recent version of Windows and SQL Server in the requirements below should always be used for new installations.

EG Retail recommends that the terminals are controlled by AD to roll out Windows updates and changes to operative system setup/configuration.(https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/cloud-platform/system-center-configuration-manager)


Operating system and software

New installations should use:

  • Windows

    • Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019

    • Windows 10 IOT Enterprise LTSC 2021

    • Windows 11 IOT Enterprise LTSC 2024 (support will be added in Q3 2024)

  • Database (central SQL server must run the same version or later)

    • Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Express Edition with latest service pack

    • Microsoft SQL Server 2022 Express Edition with latest service pack

  • .Net Framework 4.6.2

Existing installations can also run on the following older versions, but upgrade should be planned:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Express Edition with Advanced Services Service Pack 1 or later.

    • Requires extra Microsoft license for Extended Support Updates = EDU, valid until Jul 12, 2027, more info.

  • Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016

    • Requires Microsoft extra license for Extended Support Updates = EDU, valid until Oct 13, 2026, more info.


Required hardware resources

PS: The operating system might have higher hardware requirements than the POS software.

  • The processor should have single core rating of at least 1000 in Passmark.

    • Minimum 2 physical processor cores required.

  • 8 GB of RAM

  • SSD/HDD with 256 GB or more space available for storage

  • Supported resolutions

    • Standard (4:3 landscape mode)

      • 1024×768

      • 1280×1024

    • Widescreen (16:9 landscape mode)

      • 1366×768

      • 1920×1080

    PS: Windows must use 100% scaling of texts in the user interface.

  • Self-service POS also supports widescreen resolutions in portrait mode


Optional devices and periphery required to use certain features

  • Touchscreen

  • Customer screen

    • If using a customer screen, this should have the same aspect ratio as the cashier screen

  • OPOS (OLE for retail point of sale)-compatible point of sale (POS) hardware:

    • Bar code scanner

    • Receipt printer

    • Cash drawer

    • Magnetic stripe reader (MSR)

    • RFID reader

    • Signature capture device (Signotec)

    • Line display


Other software

  • Beyond Trust for remote support (included).

  • Antivirus software, provided by the customer.


Internet

Minimum 20 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speed.


StoreCentral database

One of the cash registers in the store has an extra database to share receipts and other data between the cash registers in the store.

The processor on this PC should have higher performance if there are many cash registers in the store. Minimum 2000 passmark rating and 2 physical cores.
